El-Maghazi temporary dumpsite in the Middle Area Governorate of Gaza has become a critical facility after October 2023, following the war and the inaccessibility of official landfills within the Access Restricted Areas (ARA). The site currently receives 45–60 m³ of mixed waste daily under unsafe conditions.
Objectives & Scope
The project, led by UNDP in partnership with JSC-KRM and the El-Maghazi Municipality, aims to reshape the waste body, improve site stability, introduce stormwater and leachate management, and ensure safe temporary operations until permanent solutions are available.
Key Outputs
Engineered reshaping of existing waste with safe slopes.
Controlled ramp access, fencing, and daily compaction.
A functional drainage channel with screening.
Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
Expected Impact
Improved safety, reduced pollution, and increased capacity (up to 23,500 m³), ensuring continuity of waste services and community protection under emergency conditions.
